About A.J. Baime

A.J. Baime began writing books at age six, when he penned a 12-page tome that he still has called Thunder, about a racehorse. The covers are made out of cardboard. A.J. attended the University of New Hampshire, then got a Masters in literature from New York University, where he focused on the art of writing biography. 


Today, A.J. is the author of numerous books, which had made both the New York Times bestsellers list and the New Yorker best books of the year list. He has served as an executive editor for three major magazines, and his journalism has appeared in countless publications, including the New York Times and the Washington Post. Baime was a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal from 2010 to 2025. 


A.J. has served as a speaker at museums and institutions around the country, including the Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman presidential libraries, the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, the Truman Little White House in Key West, the Pritzker Military Museum in Chicago, the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, and various aviation museums. A.J. has also appeared in TV shows and films, including the new documentary series “World War II with Tom Hanks.”


He is also known for his work in the automotive space. He wrote the My Ride column in the Wall Street Journal for 12-years and is currently an Editor-at-Large at Road & Track magazine. 


When not working, he is likely to be skiing the Sierra Nevada in California or playing drums with his band Malpractice. He is also training to earn his pilot license. He lives in northern California with his family.
